6. Bärenkopplauf

The Bärenkopplauf is a challenging mountain and trail run in the Rhein-Westerwald Nature Park, covering approximately 11 km on the premium hiking trail "WällerTour Bärenkopp" with around 360 meters of ascent and 260 meters of descent. The race takes place on the first Friday in August starting at 6:00 PM with staggered block starts. The course is divided into two halves: the first half is technically demanding with trails and steep climbs, while the second half mostly runs downhill and is scenically attractive. The fastest man and woman at Bärenkoppkreuz receive a mountain prize. The event is organized by VfL Waldbreitbach and offers a family-friendly atmosphere with catering and timing via transponder.

Start occurs in staggered block starts between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM with 20 participants per block. Bib numbers are assigned after registration closes based on the 10 km time provided; the fastest runners start first, late registrants in the last block. There are two refreshment stations at 3.3 km and 7 km with water. The course is permanently marked and includes steep, sometimes narrow trails with steps and wooden bridges; caution is advised in wet conditions. Bib pickup and bag drop-off take place on the schoolyard of Realschule plus. Timing is done with disposable transponders on the bibs. Finish line refreshments include water, tea, and energy drinks. Parking is available near start and finish; parking near the finish allows about 1 km of running to the start. Registration online until August 3, 2026; late registration until August 6, 2026; no shower facilities. The event includes the Bärchenlauf and other activities.
