Herbstcross auf dem Bergfried

The Autumn Cross at Bergfried is a short autumn cross-country race held on the grounds of Bergfried in Saalfeld, Germany. The course lengths range from 800 meters to 4.8 kilometers and are designed for fast trail running, not for long road races. The race takes place outside the stadium and is classified as both a mountain run and a cross-country race. The Saalfeld Athletics Club has been organizing the event for many years with separate races for children and adults as well as various age groups.

The race includes categories for youth, open class, masters, and local runners from Saalfeld-Rudolstadt. In a previous edition, approximately 200 children and adolescents participated. Typical weather in October is around 14°C during the day and 6°C at night, with an average of 40 mm of precipitation and mostly cloudy skies. The race is run outside the stadium, including categories for children and adults, trail and mountain running. Registration deadline is September 29, 2026.
