First held in 1970, the Bartenwetzer Volkslauf is today the oldest fun run in Northern Hesse and one of 19 scoring events for the Northern Hesse Cup (NHC). The start and finish are located at the Melsunger Waldstadion on the edge of the Melsunger city forest. In addition to children's and youth races over 400 m and 1,000 m on the track, there are runs offered over 5 km, 10 km, and 19 km, which take place on solid paths through the beautiful Melsunger city forest. The Bartenwetzer Volkslauf usually takes place annually in June.
