A loud cannon blast as the starting signal – authentically ignited by the local fireworks club – is the hallmark of the New Year's Eve run at the Thülsfelder Dam. Since 1975, this traditional event has been a highlight for runners who lace up their running shoes one last time in the year by the reservoir. The times achieved are included in the official rankings, and the good atmosphere attracts many participants. The obligatory pea soup is a must during the subsequent gathering, as participants prepare for the transition into the new year.
