The Scharfenstein Run was first held in 1925, making it the oldest fun run in Thuringia. It traditionally takes place on Pentecost Saturday and is organized by SV Concordia Beuren. Since 2014, the start and finish have been located on the grounds of Scharfenstein Castle. On June 7, 2025, the Scharfenstein Run celebrated its 100th anniversary with a record participation of around 500 runners. The race distances of 9 and 18 km are hilly and take place on forest, meadow, and gravel paths.
