The Scharfenstein Run was first held in 1925, making it the oldest popular race in Thuringia. Traditionally, it takes place on Pentecost Saturday and is organized by SV Concordia Beuren. The start and finish of all races are located on the grounds of Scharfenstein Castle. The challenging running courses of 9 and 18 km traverse forest, meadow, and gravel paths, while the children's races of 1 and 2.3 km, as well as the Bambini run over 400 meters, take place in close proximity to the castle.
