The Hermannlauf, commonly referred to as "Hermann," is a running event over 31.1 km that traditionally leads from the Hermannsdenkmal in Detmold to the Sparrenburg in Bielefeld. The route winds through the picturesque Teutoburg Forest and features challenging terrains such as forest and sandy paths, asphalt, and cobblestones, as well as a demanding elevation profile with inclines and declines. As one of the most popular mass sporting events in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Hermannlauf attracts numerous participants and is dubbed the "Rennsteig of the West."

- Some of the special highlights of the course include the Panzerstraße in the grounds of the Senne military training area, the Tönsberg, the city center of Oerlinghausen, as well as the Lämershagener stairs and the Eiserne Anton in the Bielefeld district of Stieghorst.
