The Freimarktslauf Garrel features officially measured 5 and 10 km races, as well as student races over 2.5 and 1.2 km and Bambini runs. The athletics department of BV Garrel has been organizing this popular race since 2006 as part of the Garreler Freimarkt, and participation numbers have steadily increased. In 2023, the 18th edition of the Garreler Freimarktslauf will take place, which is well received by both locals and visitors. Particularly, the Bambini and student races are highlights of the event, which is complemented by a wide entertainment program.
