The Celler Lauf, officially known as the Celler Wasa-Lauf, has been held annually in the center of Celle on the second Sunday in March since 1983. It has nothing to do with the Swedish cross-country skiing event Vasaloppet, but derives its name from the main sponsor, the crispbread manufacturer Wasa. By now, it is one of the largest fun runs in Germany and includes several distances, such as a children's run of 2.5 km, as well as races of 5, 10, 15, and 20 km. In 2012, around 9,300 participants took part, while 25,000 spectators attended the event.
