The Brocken Challenge (BC) is a usually quite demanding winter charity ultra-marathon that takes place annually on the second or third Saturday in February. The course runs from Göttingen to the summit of the Brocken in the Harz mountains and typically covers about 80 to 86 km with approximately +1,900/-1,100 meters of elevation gain. Due to the external conditions, this ultra-marathon is considered one of the most challenging long-distance races. Since 2014, interested participants must apply for a starting place, which makes participation even more exclusive.

Highlights

  • The BC has raised a total of 446,950 euros through its 21 previous events.
  • The regular course is 80 km long, although it may vary depending on weather conditions.
  • In 2010, a distance of 86 km had to be covered due to significant amounts of snow; in 2019, it was 81 km due to a detour.
