The Bilstein Marathon is an ultramarathon held annually since 2011 through the Kaufunger Forest, starting and finishing in Kleinalmerode. Named after the second highest mountain of the Mittelgebirge Kaufunger Wald, the Bilstein (641.2m above sea level), the event offers various distances, including 21 km, 42 km, and 57 km. With the motto "Flat is different!" and hosting the German Championships in Ultratrail in 2016, the Bilstein Marathon is one of the most popular ultratrails in Germany, despite a participant limit of 500 runners.
